A yacht charter in Antarctica is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, where you can journey to the end of the earth and discover one of the most beautiful and remote regions on the planet.
Take in the incredible remote scenery and wildlife of this icy wonderland. Get up close and personal with penguins, see whales cut seamlessly through the cold waters and marvel at protected seabirds overhead.
Explore the sandy slopes of Hannah Point on the south coast of Livingston Island and watch colonies of penguins and Elephant seals lounging on the pebble beaches. Drop anchor at Deception Island. Take your charter yacht directly into the centre of the volcano in the sheltered bay.
Get up close with Deception’s large colony of Chinstrap penguins before going ashore to explore the frozen landscapes. Only for the bold, Deception is also the perfect spot to take a polar plunge. Gently heated by the island’s volcano, dive into the waters around Pendulum Cove before warming up back on board.
Lying between Adelaide Island and Graham Land, the Gullet is a beautiful narrow channel surrounded by soaring mountains tipped with snow. Flat and calm, the water in the Gullet offers perfect conditions for tranquil cruising on your charter yacht through blue-ice glaciers to Marguerite Bay. On the west side of the Antarctic Peninsula, Marguerite Bay is made up of ice and rock and is the ideal spot to observe the continent’s incredible marine life.
Take advantage of 24-hour daylight during the summer months and spot penguins, seals and whales basking in the Antarctic sun. This is a wildlife experience like no other and a true bucket-list charter destination.
Highlights
Key facts
Ushuaia
Begin your luxury yacht charter in Antarctica at Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. With a thriving port and important naval base, the city’s brightly coloured houses line steep streets which contrast dramatically with the snow-capped mountains of the Martial Range. The town’s official motto is ‘Ushuaia, end of the world, beginning of everything’, which makes it the perfect place to start the adventure of a lifetime in Antarctica.
The Drake Passage
Once your charter yacht leaves Ushuaia, you'll navigate your way through the Beagle Channel, out past Cape Horn and into the open waters of the Drake Passage. 1,000km wide, the passage is renowned amongst sailors for its powerful storms but with a bit of luck, your crossing will be smooth sailing all the way.
Continue your voyage
As you get closer to the South Pole, the days will become noticeably longer and depending on the time of year, you may find yourselves accompanied by playful dolphins or migrating whales.
Livingston Island
Livingston Island is the second largest of the South Shetland Islands and has two important nature reserves used by scientists to study and monitor the island’s wildlife. It's home to Hannah Point, where sandy slopes lead to pebble beaches. You can observe and photograph the colonies of penguins and elephant seals who call Livingston home. Walk a little way up the beach to catch a glimpse of neighbouring Deception Island, the next port of call.
Deception Island
Formed after a caldera volcanic explosion, the quirky c-shaped Deception Island defies its name from the offset with its intriguing scenery and plentiful wildlife. Anchor in the island’s sheltered bay and go ashore to discover spectacular coastal walks. For a novel hot spring experience, dig a hole in the black sand down on Port Foster beach and relax in the warm water gently heated by the island’s volcano. Whilst ashore, don’t miss the opportunity to get up close and personal with some Chinstrap penguins.
Antarctic Sound
Sail to Iceberg Alley in the Antarctic Sound and drift past incredible ice shelves as you watch immense glaciers emerge from the comfort of your luxury yacht. As you cruise the edge of the Weddell Sea, watch out for passing ice flows. You’ll pass nearby an important Emperor penguin rookery on Snow Hill Island so it may be possible to catch a glimpse of the elusive penguins resting on the drift ice before they head for open water.
Gerlache Strait
Wake up to discover the magnificent Danco Coast and whale-watch in the icy waters, home to both Killer whales and Humpback whales. Kayak in the afternoon to watch groups of Gentoo penguins and Weddell seals bask on the rocky shores. Paddle past blue-ice glaciers and take in all the splendour of the frozen continent.
